Competitive Analysis

The Biblio project faced limited direct competition in offering a sustainable, educational resource-sharing platform for moderate to occasional readers and social users. As a result, I extended my research to platforms in the e-learning, digital libraries, and social reading communities sectors.

I created competitive profiles comparing factors such as:

  • Marketing Strategy: How competitors targeted readers and social users interested in educational and sustainable content.
  • Target Market: Focus on readers (moderate to occasional) and social users who engage in community-driven activities like sharing recommendations and reviews.
  • Core Business: Key offerings (e.g., resource sharing, educational content, social features).
  • Usability & Design: Intuitive, visually appealing interfaces designed for occasional readers and social interactions.
  • Content & Performance: Quality and relevance of content, including sustainability-focused materials, and how well platforms performed in user engagement.

I also conducted a SWOT analysis to assess gaps in the market and identify opportunities for Biblio to differentiate itself by combining social engagement with sustainable education.

Key research questions included:

  • How can social features enhance engagement without overwhelming occasional readers?
  • How can sustainability content be seamlessly integrated into the user experience?

Understanding User Needs

Using insights from interviews and survey data, I defined three target personas—Jason (Casual Reader, 30), Emily (Book Blogger, 27), and Sofia (Literature Student, 22). This helped me better empathize with key user groups and prioritize features that align with their reading habits, social engagement needs, and platform expectations.

Functions: Creating Social Settings

To build a community, Biblio includes commenting on other peoples finds and likes as well as DMs as core features. Commenting lets users share thoughts and discuss books, while DMs provide a private space for more personal interactions. These features help users connect, share recommendations, and engage with others over their love for books.

Personalized Profile

Biblio’s personalized profile feature allows users to showcase their reading preferences, favorite books, and recent activity. It creates a space where users can express their love for books, track their progress, and share what they’re reading with others, making the platform feel more unique and connected.

Wireframes: App Interconnection

The wireframes show how Biblio’s pages connect seamlessly, allowing users to easily navigate between discovering books, interacting with friends, and managing their profiles, creating a smooth and intuitive experience.
